Mermaid Treasure Shell
This beautiful vessel represents the ability of nature to create beautiful forms.
Look inside this shell bowl. It has a little surprise for you: deep ocean blue water.
This shell was thrown on the wheel and altered. After the form was thrown, it was
heavily altered and hand carved. It was sprayed with four different glazes and then
glass pieces were put inside the shell to create the water effect. It is high fired in
electric kiln. This shell is safe for dry food. Dimensions: 8" in diameter x 6" tall.
I used clay rich with iron (dark red/brown). After the form was thrown on the wheel, I
applied black slip to it and expanded the form from inside out while spinning the wheel.
Special sodium silicate method was used to achieve deep crackles. After the bowl
was bisqued, I sprayed the bowl with thin red glaze so that it penetrated in cracks and
then cleaned the bowl from outside that there was no glaze left on the black form. It is
glazed with led free glaze inside and is food safe. It can be micro waved and dish
washed. It is high fired in electric kiln. Dimensions: 7.5" in diameter x 5.5" tall.
